Karyn is a partner and leader of Thompson Hine’s Transportation practice group. Based upon interviews with clients and peers, Karyn has been recognized as one of the leading lawyers nationwide who represent shippers in freight transportation matters by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers, Legal 500, and Super Lawyers, Washington, DC.
Karyn’s rail practice includes representation of multinational corporations, trade associations, and bulk commodity and intermodal shippers in regulatory and commercial freight rail matters. Karyn serves as the general counsel to The National Industrial Transportation League, a leading national trade organization of U.S. producers, manufacturers and distributors known as the “voice of the shipper.” She is engaged in major freight policy and adjudicatory proceedings before the U.S. Surface Transportation Board involving competitive access and reciprocal switching, demurrage, commodity exemptions, rail service and rates, rail construction and abandonments, and federal preemption. She also handles railroad safety and hazardous materials issues and provides strategic counselling on railroad contracts, tariffs, and equipment leases.
