Karyn is a partner and leader of Thompson Hine’s Transportation practice group. Based upon interviews with clients and peers, Karyn has been recognized as one of the leading lawyers nationwide who represents shippers in freight transportation matters by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers, Legal 500, and Super Lawyers, Washington, DC.
Karyn is a strategic advisor to multinational corporations, trade associations, and commodity and intermodal shippers in regulatory and commercial freight transportation matters. Karyn represents clients in policy and adjudicatory proceedings before the U.S. Surface Transportation Board (STB), U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), the Department of Transportation (DOT) and its modal agencies, and the Congress. She has represented industries before the STB on matters to increase competition in the rail industry, address inadequate rail, unreasonably high rates, and to remove commodity exemptions. She assists clients with all types of transportation contracts and leases, demurrage and contract disputes, and handles rail safety compliance and hazardous materials enforcement proceedings.
Karyn is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, and New York (inactive). She is also admitted before the United States Supreme Court; United States Courts of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Eighth Circuit, Seventh Circuit, and the Fourth Circuit; and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
