2023 Highlights
- San Diego Semi-Annual conference was quite the success with 578 in attendance.
- Long time SWARS leader, Richard Dodd was awarded the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award.
- SWARS is implementing a new Event Management system that will enhance our on-line registration process. The new system should be up and running for our Galveston Annual 2024 conference!
- Our Annual conference was held March 29-30th at the Grand Hyatt Riverwalk hotel. There were 825 in attendance with a waiting list of over 100!
- The 2023 new Officer Slate was elected while in San Antonio.

- Robin Arnold, American Soda, Secretary
- Ray Hufnagel, Plastics Express, Immediate Past President
- Along with the new Officer slate the following were elected to serve on the Board of Directors:
- John Orr, CSX
- Ben Ronk,Alpek Polyester
- Chris Hall, Shell
- Lisa Labrecque, Canadian National
- Thank you to Edna Rice, Aaron Cummings and Mark Conley for your years of dedication and contributions to the SWARS Board!
- Robin Arnold received the prestigious 2022 Person of the Year award. Her family surprised her and was present in San Antonio to see her accept the award.
- In March, the Board voted to give $100,000 to the 2023 Scholarship program. Lory Whitley chaired the program this year and results will be announced in late June.
- SWARS will be holding its first “RESORT” conference at the Coronado Bay resort in San Diego in September. There are several fun events planned to add to the great line up of speakers confirmed.
